Tea break [Sep. 1st, 2008|02:04 pm]
[Tags|, ]

I finally finished recording what seems is going to be the last Tea & Fiction song ever. Here it is:

TUESDAY LIGHT 4:44

recorded in Sydney, Jan/Feb 2007 and Tokyo, May/Aug 2008

Even though it's very much our "Let It Be", it's sounds a bit like a cross between Alice In Chains (unplugged) and a Tony Danza/Liza Minelli duet. I apologise for my sloppy drumming again.

So the last T&F EP turned out like this:

1 YOU DON'T WANNA BE FOUND
2 MANY YEARS
3 TUESDAY LIGHT

I should have come up with a cover and maybe rerecorded some bits here and there but I'll leave that for 30 years in the future, when we release TEA & FICTION... NAKED. Around that time many of our fans will have complained that Phil Spector shed too much hair on our mixing board, which ended up damaging our sound and reputation, and they will demand that we better rerecord this album or give them a (bandwidth) refund.

Enjoy.

ATTENTION PEOPLES OF THE USA [Jul. 10th, 2008|03:14 pm]
[Tags|, ]

This is a note to let you know that, after getting a few bad loans, I'll be gracing your land of freedom from the 3 September until the 15 September. I'll be accompanied by my pet chinchilla and my itinerary includes New York, hopefully Texas and California.

My schedule will include:

- performing "Imagine" with Yoko Ono at the Central Park;

- playing a gig with Sonic Youth and Blonde Redhead, also at the Central Park;

- autographing Dzima memorabilia (used underwear, etc.) for all the fan girls;

- buying stocks at Wall Street;

- attending a 9/11 memorial and singing the American anthem for Barbara Bush;

- attending NBA, NFL, MLS and NHL matches;

- snobbing all art galleries;

- driving coast to coast;

- buying a gun for self-protection;

- surfing in Santa Barbara;

- enjoying the Santa Ana winds;

- visiting San Rafael;

- buying a lot of Apple goods;

- working out at Gold's Gym;

- visiting Vincent Gallo in Hollywood Hills;

- drinking a lot of drip coffee;

- eating New York cheesecake, Philadelphia steak, Chicago pizza and Buffalo wings at their respective cities;

- etc.

If I'm not too much of a nuisance, feel free to book me in for a visit and I'll book you in on my schedule. I'll be staying at the Ghostbusters building in New York and with Blixa Bargeld in California.

Dear groupies Eva and Margaret, I'll try my best to at least fly over your houses and drop some special gifts from the plane. Dear Stanley Lieber, if I fly over your state, I'll be dropping a box full essential goods (electronics, midi keyboards, comics and action figures) for you as well.

*****

On another note, I went to a gig the other night (rare occurrence these days). [info]tokidoki was there.

This is My Pal Foot Foot, featuring a girl and a lad with long noses (for Amy):

I thought they were going to be cute but turned out to be droney and full of electronic noises.

This is Joe Satriani.

And this is an all star blues band

featuring UENO, who plays in every single indie guitar band in Tokyo, including the Tenniscoats.

it's not my first time seeing him live.

Reviving my ailing career [Jun. 20th, 2008|04:35 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Even though I know that releasing songs on Livejournal is "so 2006", here I am at it again and this one is for the arduous fans only.

I started recording this song in February 2007 and just manage to finish today. It was meant to be a Tea&Fiction song but I'm releasing as solo tune (and lawsuits withstanding).

DRAGONFLY (04:36)

lyrics by Dzima and Jun; music by Dzima; guitars, bass, drums, vocals performed by Dzima. Recorded at Chelsea Studios, Sydney, February to May 2007 and at Gateway Studios, Tokyo, June 2008.

I apologise for my sloppy drumming.

All I managed to do with this song was to ruin it by turning it into a disjointed David Lynch-ean version of its former self, the same way Sting did in 1993, when he butchered his own song he had recorded with The Police by inviting Wesley Snipes to sing backing vocals for him.

Anyway, all the best to everyone and I hope you enjoy it.

Being Julio Iglesias [Jan. 4th, 2008|11:03 pm]
[Tags|, ]

As I spoke about in this post, I am now plying a trade as a professional serenader. My first job assignment has taken me to Japan - though I am still waiting for proposals from other countries abroad (I can perform one on one, at parties, weddings or funerals). So here's the album of cover songs I've recorded to illustrate this latest (de)evolution of my work. I am trying to shed my previous image of being "the post-modern Bryan Ferry" and am now trying to become "the post-modern Julio Iglesias" instead.

(Red wall dedicated to Alin but in the end this cover is just a poor man's version of Digiki's latest album cover)

Track list

1 - Wishing I Was There (Imbruglia/Thornalley/Campsie)

2 - Let's Stick Together (Harrison)

3 - Glycerine (Rossdale)

4 - You (Yorke/Greenwood/Greenwood/O'Brien/Selway)

5 - Sing (Healy)

6 - Roxanne (Sting)

7 - We Only Come Out At Night (Corgan)

8 - I'm Only Sleeping (Lennon/McCartney)

9 - Qualquer Coisa (Veloso)

10 - Life in a Glass House (Yorke/Greenwood/Greenwood/O'Brien/Selway)

11 - Bullet Proof (I Wish I Was) (Yorke/Greenwood/Greenwood/O'Brien/Selway)

12 - Out Of Time (Albarn)

bonus track

13 - Business Time (Clement/McKenzie)

***

I'm aiming at the pop charts here and I'm positive this album will crack the top 10 - in Tonga, San Marino, St Kitts & Nevis, Faroe Islands and Brunei (at least I will be able to emulate Phil Collins and play a private gig for the King of Brunei this way). Some of my old fans might feel betrayed but I'm trying to lure to some new faces to my side and this album is of tremendous value indeed, something that was planned to provide an extra incentive for the new fans. By adding this song collection to your music library, you're getting four albums for the price of one (even though it's free to download it): an MTV unplugged, a greatest hits album, a mix cd and an album of covers.

But actually I have a few very personal reasons to release this album at this point in time.

Firstly, the budget of Coma Berenices went completely haywire so I'm trying to cut costs here and be a good employee to my record company by playing it safe.

Secondly and more importantly, this album represents my own version of Rock 'n' Roll as I am currently going through a Lost Weekend away from my Yoko Ono (which has been very tolling on both of us) and, to make matters worse, I don't even have a May Pang around to provide me with comfort.

Anyway, enough talk and please enjoy it. Or maybe not, because I have already been physically attacked twice by mad Dzima fans who are unhappy with my recent work so I'll just post this as friends' only to save face from internet embarrassment.

Digging the musical grave [Dec. 6th, 2007|08:33 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[Current Music |who wants honey]

Yesterday, someone found something very funny, embarrassing and nostalgic about myself as a teenage composer. It's the oldest track of mine that still remains preserved. You can find it here:

http://spurensicherung.blogspot.com/2007/04/klng-copyleft-non-profit-free-music.html

(scroll down to KLÄNG # 3 and look for rafs dziminsky, the moniker which evolved into ralf dziminski)

There are a few songs and compositions from 1999 or 1998 that I've lost so this is not my first composition, just the oldest on record. Whiteout is from that era too, I can't precise which one is older though.

Anyway, people were asked to contribute short sonic pieces to this compilation and that's what I came up with. Agatha 2 went on, developed wings and evolved into 8.

Enough about nostalgia for today, because I need to get an energy boost/sugar hit with my freshly bought Steve Irwin's own premium gum tree honey.

New Dzima song, this time around sung in an exotic language (Portuguese). Cover version of a Caetano Veloso composition.

Qualquer Coisa (2:20, 2.8MB)

I actually knew the lyrics even before checking them on a website, maybe I used to listen to this tune a lot when I was a kid...

First new Dzima solo song in 6 months.

Crimson & Cyan (04:32, 5.5MB)

I was trying to create my own brand of dub but the end result sounds more like Kraftwerk meets Jean Michel Jarre. I'm already predicting that this radical change in my sound and image will alienate lots of my old fans but let's wait and see.

Still milking the same cow [Mar. 4th, 2007|12:36 am]
[Tags|, ]

Following the example of Ricky Martin, we as Tea&Fiction have decided to record alternative versions of our songs in languages other than English. Since the remix our version of Dagashi had become a minor underground disco hit in Japan we thought about recording a few other versions of our songs in Japanese. Here they are:

(we're playing under the moniker of Kyogi Cha in these songs. It's a rough translation of the original band name)

MITEIRU
(aka See) - now pretty different. It mentions how the seasons influence people and their relationships. Things turn out to be both good and bad as the year goes by, but in the end everything is gonna be alright.

OSHABERI
(aka Talk) - has different words but has kept the same vibe of two people who go after each other and try to be together but fail to connect and reach for each other in all levels.

OKANE
(aka Money) - the topic of this song has changed. Inspired by [info]silenceinspades's situation, it now talks about how "restructuring" (or the fear of it) is affecting our daily lives.

KAKURENBO
(aka Way) - also changed. It juxtaposes a weary adult's point of view of the world with a child's, who is playing hide and seek, one. Surprisingly, this tune became our second underground minor hit in Japan.

DAGASHI
(aka A Ghost In The Bath) - talks about a serious addiction and subsequent OD on cheap lollies.

For all Dzima solo fans and groupies out there, I have something in the plans right now. It's going to be all instrumental (so that you don't have to listen to my voice) and hybrid electronic/live (I'm finally going to put my pedal collection into full use, John Frusciante meets Fennesz style). Coming in 2007...

Dzima releases third album, Coma Berenices

larger front & back cover )

Songs:

1.
Sirius Patrol

2.
Coma Berenices
i. The Great Bear
ii. The Lernaean Hydra
iii. The Enthroned Woman
iv. The Healer
v. The Camelopardalis

3.
Tesseract
Concerto for Violin Ensemble, Guitars, Bass and Ring Modulator

4.
Undanceable Tango

The story behind this concept album is as follows:

The year is sometime around 2070 or later. Somewhere in the North Pole, a woman, Berenice, is dying and Serpentarius, her lover, and an Eskimo shaman are trying to save her.

Rewind now to Britain (a country occupied by China and her allies since the last war) a few weeks earlier and we see how Serpentarius rescued Berenice from her werewolf fiancee by killing him with a silver bullet. By doing that, he upset the queen and the government with whom Werewolf Man was a close and influent friend (a Rupert Murdoch of sorts) so they both have to escape. They steal a boat and launch themselves into the deep seas.

Whilst on the boat, Serpentarius discovers that Berenice has been infected with her dead fiancee's lycanthropy but still hasn't fully become a werewolf. He knows that a secretive monster, Taniwha, who lives hiding in Tuvalu can help her so they set sail for to the South Pacific.

In a bid to escape the British-Chinese army and navy, our two lovers decide to sail along the coast of Greenland and Canada, through the North-West Passage. They lose sight of their pursuers but things are not as fortunate as they seem for Berenice's health is rapidly declining and she could become a werewolf at any minute. To add to their troubles, they encounter a Great Bear, whom Serpentarius kills, and a Lernaean Hydra, a nearly invincible creature from which Berenice suffers a fatal blow. Serpentarius manages to escape, barely alive, carrying her body in the snow when he finds the already mentioned Eskimo Shaman living in a four dimensional igloo. Using his magic, Shaman cuts Berenice's long hair and throws it to the sky, where it reaches another constellation. In return, the stars send him a small special rock that has the power to revive her. When in contact with the fallen rock from the sky, she lives again and shaman gifts the couple with his genetically modified polar giraffe to help them get to the Pacific.

It is a race against time. Serpentarius and Berenice continue on their journey through the Pacific Ocean, hoping to reach Taniwha before Berenice's transformation is complete. They get to Tuvalu and manage to find the ever elusive reptile-like whale monster whom, surprisingly, actually agrees to help. Berenice however, has already turned into a werewolf. She attacks Taniwha and he ends up eating both of them.

The End

dedicated to the late [info]cap_scaleman, who died at the tender age of 18. Oh wait, apparently our Eskimo shaman is going to resurrect him in five weeks time...

New song:

Undanceable Tango (07:58, 9.1MB)

This song is a part of my upcoming concept album. Unfortunately or fortunately, [info]silenceinspades was ahead of me and already released a concept EP himself. Have a listen, it's very good.

I had two days off in row from work because I've been sick but the bosses are already mad at me and blah blah blah. What do they want, I am sick! And at least I got to finish this song quicker than what I first expected instead of wasting my time at work being their obedient servant... Anyway, please download this track and enjoy it!
